The Castle

Castello di Ristonchi, a thousand years old, and gloriously itself

Castello di Ristonchi from above, the stone tower and the little chapel with its round window at the heart of the estate

Golden hour over the chapel, the tower and the pool.

A castle, not a hotel

Ristonchi is a 1,000-year-old castle estate, not a luxury hotel, and that's exactly its charm. Rooms are comfortable and full of character, and some are on the smaller side. Linens, towels, toiletries, hair dryers and ironing are all provided, so you can pack light.

Good to know: no air conditioning

There is no air conditioning at the castle. Thick stone walls, mountain air and a spring-fed pool keep things comfortable in September, and heating is provided if the evenings turn cool. Bring a sweater for after dark and you'll be set.

Spring water, straight from the tap

The tap water is mountain spring water and completely safe to drink. Fill your bottle at any tap. It tastes better than the bottled kind anyway.

Getting around the grounds

It's a rural hilltop estate: expect stone paths, lawns, stairs and uneven ground. Parking at the venue is limited, which is one more reason to take the airport shuttle (see Travel, below). If you need a ground-floor room or have any mobility needs, tell us in the RSVP and we'll take care of it.

Travel

Fly to Florence, then let the shuttle do the rest

Step 1 · Fly

Florence Airport (FLR)

Fly into Florence Airport (FLR). It's the closest airport to the castle, and it's where the castle shuttle is planned to pick up. If you're making a trip of it, Florence itself is well worth a night or two before or after the wedding.

Step 2 · Shuttle

The castle shuttle

The castle shuttle is being arranged, not booked just yet: two buses between Florence Airport and the castle, and the easiest way up the hill. No rental car, no mountain roads, and parking at the castle is limited.

Tell us in the RSVP if you'd like a seat, and plan your flights around the planned times on the right.

Driving yourself

Self-arrivals

Driving instead? Check-in is after 4:00 PM and early check-in isn't possible, but the grounds are open while your room is prepared, so come up, get a drink and enjoy the view.

Arriving · Tuesday, Sept 14

Shuttles leave Florence Airport for the castle at about:

1:30 PM · 2:00 PM · 4:00 PM · 4:30 PM

Guests on the shuttle reach the castle from about 2:30 PM.

Leaving · Friday, Sept 17

Shuttles leave the castle for Florence Airport at about:

8:00 AM · 8:30 AM · 11:00 AM · 11:15 AM

Shuttle guests get an extended departure breakfast, 7:30–10:30 AM.

Weather in mid-September: warm days and cool evenings in the hills above Florence. Pack layers. You'll want a sweater or jacket after the sun goes down. Exact shuttle times will be confirmed once we have everyone's flights.

Stay

Three nights at the castle, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Everyone stays at Castello di Ristonchi for all three nights, Tuesday, September 14, Wednesday, September 15 and Thursday, September 16, 2027. We've rented the entire castle, so there's nothing to book: wake up to breakfast together, wander down to dinner, and never worry about getting home.

Your room

We'll place you

We've rented the whole castle and will assign every guest their room ourselves, with care. Rooms are spread across the castle and its Fattoria buildings, all on the estate.

Check-in is Tuesday from 4:00 PM; check-out is Friday at 11:00 AM. Every room comes with linens, towels, toiletries and a hair dryer provided.

Need a ground-floor room, or have accessibility needs? Just tell us in the RSVP and we'll place you well.

The contribution

$125 a night

We've rented out the entire castle for the weekend and are covering the majority of the cost of everyone's stay.

We're asking each guest to chip in $125 per night ($375 total for the three-night stay) toward their room. Think of it as a stay at one of the world's oldest castles, with much better roommates.

How to contribute

Send your contribution by Zelle to Mallie at:

(617) 650-8199

Per person, not per couple or party. Each guest's share is $125 for each night, $375 per person for the three nights. Send it along with your RSVP, and thank you for being part of this.

Food & Drink

Come hungry, this is Tuscany, after all

Hosted by us

Included

  • Welcome prosecco at scheduled events
  • House wine at included lunches & dinners
  • Beer provided at the hosted events
  • The wedding aperitivo, prosecco & an Aperol Spritz bar
  • Coffee served with breakfast
Room tabs

At the bars

The reception bar, pool bar and mobile bar serve cocktails during the day, Aperol Spritz, Hugo Spritz, gin & tonic and the classics, along with coffee drinks.

Anything you order at the bars goes on your room tab, which you settle before departure on Friday.

Please don't bring alcohol

Guests can't bring their own alcohol. That's a licensing rule at the venue, not us being strict. Between the hosted pours, the spritz bar and the Rave Cave, you won't go thirsty.

Dietary needs? Tell us in the RSVP, including severe allergies, and the kitchen will look after you at every meal.

Packing & Dress Code

What to bring, and what to wear

The essentials

  • Passport & travel documents
  • Bank card, plus some euros in cash

  • Medications you need

Clothes & comfort

  • Comfortable shoes for stone paths & lawns
  • Outfit changes for the other days

Gifts

Your presence is our present

(Truly. No registry, no gift table. Put the blender money toward your flight.)

We’re so excited to have everyone together in Italy! We’ve rented out the entire castle for the weekend and are covering the majority of the cost so we can all enjoy this experience together.

We’re asking each guest to chip in $125 per night ($375 total for the three-night stay) toward their room. Think of it as a stay at one of the world’s oldest castles, with much better roommates.

You can find our Zelle info in the Stay section. When you send your RSVP, please include your room contribution so we can get everything squared away. We can’t wait to celebrate with everyone!

Questions

The things everyone's asking

When should I arrive and leave?

Plan to arrive on Tuesday, September 14, guest check-in opens at 4:00 PM, and shuttle guests arrive from about 2:30 PM. The weekend wraps up with breakfast and check-out at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 17. If you can, add a night or two in Florence on either side.

Where will I stay?

At the castle, we've rented all of Castello di Ristonchi for the three nights (September 14, 15 and 16) and will assign everyone their room ourselves, so there's nothing for you to book. We're covering the majority of the cost of everyone's stay; each guest's part toward their room is $125 per night, $375 for the three-night stay, by Zelle along with your RSVP (see the Stay section for details).

Can I bring a plus-one, or my kids?

Your invitation names everyone who is invited. If you're unsure about a plus-one or little ones, just reach out to Mallie or Sawyer directly, we're happy to talk it through.

Is there air conditioning?

No, and it surprises people less than you'd think. The castle's thick stone walls, the mountain air and the spring-fed pool keep it comfortable in September, and there's heating if nights turn cool. A light sweater for the evenings is the whole secret.

I have dietary restrictions or allergies. What should I do?

Tell us in the RSVP form, there's a spot for every guest, including a flag for severe allergies. The venue collects all restrictions ahead of time so the kitchen can take proper care of you at every meal.

Can I bring my own alcohol?

No, the venue's license doesn't allow outside alcohol. Plenty is included: welcome prosecco, house wine at lunches and dinners, beer at the hosted events, and the spritz bar at the aperitivo. Anything beyond that goes on your room tab.

How do I pay for drinks, and the room contribution?

Two different things. Extra drinks are charged to your room tab during the weekend, and you settle your tab before departure on Friday. Your part of the castle stay, $125 per night, $375 for the three-night stay, toward your room (we're covering the majority of the cost), is sent ahead by Zelle to Mallie, along with your RSVP. The Zelle number is in the Stay section.

I need a ground-floor room, or I have mobility needs.

Just tell us in the RSVP, there's a question about ground-floor preference and a space for accessibility or mobility needs. The estate has stairs and uneven stone paths, so the more we know, the better we can place you.

What about gifts and a registry?

None, please. Your presence is our present. You're already making the trip to Italy, and that means everything. (If you were eyeing a blender: put the money toward your flight.) The one thing that is part of the weekend is everyone's share of the castle stay, $125 a night toward your room, $375 for the three nights, with the Zelle details in the Stay section.

Why does the RSVP ask for my date and country of birth?

Italian law requires hotels and venues to register every overnight guest with their full legal name, date of birth and country of birth. We collect it once, here, so check-in at the castle is nothing but a smile and a prosecco. Your RSVP goes only to us. Nothing you submit is shown on this website or shared with other guests.

RSVP

Please reply by June 15, 2027, one form per household or party

First, the big question

Will your party be joining us in Tuscany?

Party attendance
Please pick one, we won't be offended, we just need to plan.

Your contact details

So we can reach the lead guest about rooms, shuttles and any questions.

That email looks incomplete, mind checking it?
Please add a phone number so we can reach you.

Who's coming?

One short block per guest, including you. Italian law requires the venue to register every overnight guest, so each person needs their full legal name (exactly as on their passport), date of birth and country of birth. The rest just helps us feed you and get you up the hill. Everyone's room at the castle is arranged by us.

The fun & useful extras

Your answers go only to Mallie & Sawyer and the venue's registration list. Nothing you submit appears on this website, and no other guest can see it.

Grazie!
